Could Sheffield United revisit deal for striker they once scouted?

Senegal international Habib Diallo, previously linked with Sheffield United (The Star), has been told he can leave Al Shabab this summer. The 28-year-old joined the Saudi Arabian club for around €20 million from Strasbourg last summer.

Diallo has managed just two goals this season, but before that he netted 20 goals during his last league campaign in France. United have been rumoured to have scouted the striker during his time in Ligue 1 per multiple sources.

According to transfer insider Ben Jacobs, via caughtoffside, a number of Premier League clubs are keeping close tabs on Diallo. Brentford, Burnley and Fulham have been credited with interest.

The latter, Fulham, could see the Senegal forward as a cheaper option to Chelsea’s Armando Broja.

It is understood that Al Shabab are prepared to take a loss on Diallo, while the top-flight clubs in question all value the goalscorer at around £10 million. The report also states that the player is willing to take a pay-cut.

Could Sheffield United be tempted by Habib Diallo?

Most will frown upon this type of deal but, for the right price, I personally think it would make sense because he ticks a lot of boxes.

He’s quick, runs the channels and threatens to run beyond the defence. He has proven he is a goalscorer, scoring 104 goals in 253 league games in France. In addition, he would give us experience and availability up the top of the pitch – something supporters have voiced their concerns over Oli McBurnie.

Since the 2017/18 season, Diallo has made 30+ league appearances in five of the six possible terms (maximum of 38 games in a season). He’s clearly a dependable forward, and a capable one in front of goal. His goal return in the top division (53 in 150) is relatively good to say he has only played for bottom half clubs.

Given he has been on our radar in the past, and the fact he is willing to take a pay cut, Diallo could be within our reach – perhaps Iliman Ndiaye can put in a good word for us.
