Micah Parsons takes punch from professional boxer as he trains away from Cowboys facility
Kevin Jairaj-USA TODAY Sports

Dallas Cowboys star edge rusher Micah Parsons isn’t doing the team’s voluntary workout program, he is, however, still putting in the work. The former Penn State standout was filmed taking a punch from professional boxer AJ Graham this week in a little game of shot-for-shot. Unfortunately, Parsons bowed out of the friendly competition after taking just one hit to the gut – but he got two in on his opponent.

In the clip posted on social media, the Cowboys defender fully throws his weight behind his punch. He couldn’t take it as well as he gave it, though. Parsons is heard shouting in pain after Graham punched him with onlookers laughing in the background. After he bails on taking a second hit, the boxer says, “What do you mean?”

Graham has posted videos of him playing the game with several others in recent days, including former Cowboys star Amari Cooper. It doesn’t look like Cooper fared any better than Parsons.

Parsons, Lamb skip Cowboys spring workout program

Like his teammate CeeDee Lamb, Parsons did not arrive at the Star on Monday for the voluntary program. It’s par for the course at this time of year for the former Penn State star, however. Parsons didn’t participate in the team’s voluntary program last year, choosing instead to workout privately.

Dak Prescott, Lamb, Parsons and right guard Zack Martin are all hoping for big extensions to stay with the team long-term and the holdout from voluntary workouts could be part of the push for those deals.

For now, the Cowboys’ activities are voluntary. That changes when the mandatory minicamp comes around in early June. The team’s spring workouts are exclusively for strength and conditioning, as outlined by the CBA.

During Parsons’ hiatus from the team last April, the edge rusher was “bulking” in Austin. He returned for OTAs in May, however. He came back better than ever, breaking his career-high for sacks with 14 in 2023.

Parsons has achieved amazing production during his first three years in the NFL, racking up 13 or more sacks in three straight seasons. Since 2021, he’s totaled 213 tackles in 50 games for the Cowboys.

Last month, the Cowboys picked up his fifth-year option as a defensive end, which has a slightly cheaper price tag than the linebacker’s fifth-year option. As a defensive end who’s played in at least one Pro Bowl, Parsons will make $21,324,000 for the 2025 season.
