The Washington Commanders were thrilled to select Jayden Daniels with the second overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. They had their pick of every QB other than Caleb Williams in a loaded QB class. Washington selected Daniels in part because of his electric rushing ability. Now that rookie minicamps are up and running around the NFL, we’re finally learning a little more about what Washington’s coaches and players think of Jayden Daniels.

According to NBC’s JP Finlay on social media, Jahan Dotson is already impressed with Daniels.

“Not sure I’m allowed to say this,” Dotson said, “but that’s the quarterback I wanted.”

“Yeah I was happy when we drafted him,” Dotson continued. “I’m really looking forward to building a relationship with him, furthering our relationship since I’ve known him in the past. Y’know he’s been good so far, he’s only been here a couple of days now.”

Dotson also spoke on the team’s new offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury.

“He really plays to our strengths,” Dotson said. “tries to make it easy.”

Kingsbury has a history as a head coach of Cardinals QB Kyler Murray both in the NFL and in college, so it is exciting to think of the offense he will try to install for mobile QB Jayden Daniels.

Kingsbury had his own nice words about Daniels.

“He’s intentional,” Kingsbury said. “Everything he does…He works really hard at it.”

It will be exciting to see Washington’s offense gel together throughout the summer and the preseason. They have the potential to be one of the NFL’s most improved offenses in 2024.

The 2024 NFL Draft is in the books. That means that the NFL schedule release is the only tentpole event on the league schedule before a slow summer.

Washington will play all four teams from the NFC South (Falcons, Saints, Buccaneers, Panthers) and AFC North (Steelers, Browns, Ravens, Bengals) as well as the fourth-place finishers in the NFC North (Chicago Bears), NFC West (Arizona Cardinals), and AFC South (Tennessee Titans). They will also play each of their divisional opponents twice a year, as is tradition.

The Commanders will face the following opponents in 2024, split by home games vs. away games:

Home games

  • Dallas Cowboys
  • New York Giants
  • Philadelphia Eagles
  • Atlanta Falcons
  • Carolina Panthers
  • Cleveland Browns
  • Pittsburgh Steelers
  • Tennessee Titans
  • Chicago Bears

Away games

  • Dallas Cowboys
  • New York Giants
  • Philadelphia Eagles
  • New Orleans Saints
  • Tampa Bay Buccaneers
  • Baltimore Ravens
  • Arizona Cardinals
  • Cincinnati Bengals

The Commanders have nine home games in 2024, which means they will alternate to having nine away games in 2025.

The Commanders have a sneaky difficult schedule. Several teams who had poor seasons in 2023 significantly increased their talent in the 2024 NFL Draft and should be fierce competition this fall. The Bears, Cardinals, Falcons, and Bengals come to mind as teams looking for a serious rebound in 2024. Washington will have to play competitive games within their own division if they want to make the playoffs. The Giants are the only team that should be easy to surpass in the NFC East.

The full NFL regular season schedule will be released tomorrow, May 15th.
