Shaping to cut, Rajat Patidar was taken aback by the extra bounce as Tom Hartley’s drag-down stopped into the surface. The leading edge ballooned to Ben Duckett at short cover, leaving India in a spot of bother at 33/3.
Delivering his trademark thunderbolts, Mark Wood had given England an excellent start in the Rajkot Test after India won the toss and elected to bat. Yashasvi Jaiswal was caught in his crease and ended up poking at an away-seamer to be caught at first slip while Shubman Gill was set up beautifully. Wood brought one back in to cut the right-hander into half before taking the next ball away to induce the edge.
