Ohio State’s starting 2023 quarterback, Kyle McCord, had one shaky season. He never really balled out, and the expectations were too high for him. After losing to Michigan, he entered the transfer portal.
McCord leaving the Buckeyes was the right move for both parties because McCord is not a big-time quarterback and shouldn’t be playing for a school that is championship or bust. Ohio State needs that type of quarterback, and they were never going to get it with McCord.
McCord decided to transfer to Syracuse, and on Saturday, he had his first game with the team, playing in the annual spring game, which he seemed to play very well.
Many posts were flying around social media of highlights of him hitting wide receivers and throwing the ball downfield, and he was pretty comfortable.

Impressive throw from Kyle McCord. If he’s feeling good and playing confident, Syracuse just might have gotten a steal. pic.twitter.com/rzJetHnrTh

I know it’s a spring game against his team, but McCord seems comfortable at Syracuse, and that’s the change of scenery he needed.
Ohio State was way too big of a program for McCord, and he was living in the shadows of guys like Justin Fields and C. J. Stroud, who played quarterback before him for the Buckeyes; many fans thought he was going to be like them, but he doesn’t have that in his bag.
McCord can fly under the radar now at Syracuse, and the good news is he is now at basketball school, so nobody expects the football team to do anything, so whatever he does on the field is a plus.
